Light & Wonder has recently achieved a significant victory in its ongoing legal disputes, which have involved a growing roster of competitors, including Aristocrat Technologies and Evolution.
Light & Wonder Secures Victory Over Copycat Game Developer
Following an unfavorable ruling regarding its Dragon Train game series against Aristocrat in the United States, Light & Wonder has successfully turned the tide. The US District Court for the Northern District ruled in favor of Light & Wonder concerning their claim that Zeroo Gravity’s mobile slot game “3 Stuffed Swine” blatantly infringed on their copyright and unlawfully appropriated elements from Light & Wonder’s own title, “Rich Little Piggies: Meal Ticket.
The lawsuit contended that Zeroo Gravity’s game closely mirrored many fundamental gameplay features and visual aspects from Light & Wonder’s original creation. The three cartoon pig characters featured prominently in both games have become iconic representations for each title.
This copycat game was released several years after the original slot machine and only one year following its adaptation into a mobile format. However, Light & Wonder acted swiftly to address this infringement by taking legal action, resulting in a court ruling affirming their position.
The company is now poised to pursue damages as well as any profits that Zeroo Gravity may have generated through this unauthorized imitation of their product.
Light & Wonder Faces Additional Legal Challenges
This recent victory is not the end of Light & Wonder’s legal battles. Similar to its previous encounter with Aristocrat Games—where they found themselves on the losing side—the company aims to secure a permanent injunction against Zeroo Gravity’s game to eliminate this competitor from the marketplace.
Additively, Light & Wonder is grappling with another legal issue stemming from Evolution in Nevada. Evolution has accused them of misappropriating intellectual property by accessing confidential documents containing critical mathematical formulas and algorithms used for developing their popular Lightning-series games.
Apart from these challenges, Aristocrat Gaming itself faces scrutiny as Kentucky authorities allege that it is providing illegal gambling services within state lines.
